All About Boyfriend
Boyfriend is....I'm not really sure what the right word is. Something about the guy has always seemed like he's not quite "right." Even so, we tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. After all, The Ex didn't really know me either but I was a big part of the kids' lives. Ultimately, we felt that even if The Ex didn't like Husband or me, she was still the kids' mother and would only do what was best for them. If Boyfriend wasn't a good person, surely she wouldn't stay with him...right?
Now let's remember that when The Ex told Husband that she was moving in with Boyfriend, Husband asked for Boyfriend's last name. The Ex refused, saying that Husband "didn't need it" and that Husband was just going to look up Boyfriend online (Our state has court records online for free) and make things up about him. After The Ex had already moved the kids in with Boyfriend and had been living there for a few months, she finally gave Boyfriend's last name to Husband. When she did this she said, "I know you're going to look [Boyfriend] up online. He's a good guy, but he got stopped for drunk driving." Husband said things like that happen; we all make mistakes but we learn from them. The Ex replied, "Well, he got stopped twice. But the second time was after his wife left him." (Um....okay. So now he has two DUIs on his record and he's divorced; that's a lot of information to learn all at once. Makes you wonder what else this guy has going on, right?)
Eventually, we did look up Boyfriend online. Lo and behold, there were his drunk driving convictions. Strangely enough, there were not two - there were four. (Unfortunately, drunk driving happens. You live, you learn, you better yourself. But four of them? And those were just the times he got caught; what about the times he was driving around drunk and nobody noticed? Now is when you start to wonder just who this person is that your kids are living with, and if The Ex even knows this stuff herself.)
Boyfriend also had tons of other tickets: hit-and-run, obstructing an officer, operating with a revoked license, etc. The one thing that was very bizarre was Boyfriend's birth year. All of the court records had the exact same month and day; however, a couple of them had a different birth year (How is the same person born three years apart?).
Then came the shock: Boyfriend had just recently filed for divorce. He and The Ex had been living together for almost three months, but he just filed for divorce. The Ex said Boyfriend got his second DUI when his wife left him. But according to court records, Boyfriend and his wife filed for divorce jointly. (The Ex knew none of this; Husband told her that Boyfriend was still married, The Ex called Husband a liar and slammed the door in his face. Then a few months later, The Ex said they had to wait to get married until Boyfriend's divorce was finalized. So....Husband is a liar for telling the truth?)
Apparently, this is The Ex's idea of building a "new life" for the kids - moving in and having a baby with a man who has a drinking problem and is married to someone else.
