The GAL report
We had been waiting on pins and needles for this report to come in. We already knew The Ex is a compulsive liar, so it was expected she was going to report all sorts of horrible things about us that were untrue. As I stated earlier, we weren't sure what the new GAL's angle was. We didn't know if he wasn't doing his job, or if he was just guarding himself because The Ex accused the former GAL of being biased against her.
Finally, the report came in. New GAL was recommending that the kids be placed with us during the school year, with The Ex during the summer. (HUGE sigh of relief.) New GAL did a very balanced, in-depth report. He noted that the kids were doing well in our house. He said he was impressed that Husband had gotten the kids into counseling (Apparently The Ex told GAL that she wanted to do it when the kids had still lived with her, but had never gotten around to it. The Ex also said that if the kids were placed with her again, she'd continue their counseling, but didn't know where. Because that's what the GAL really wants to hear is that sure, you'll take the kids to counseling...maybe...if you get around to finding a place to take them...kind of...) He said the kids told him they liked how the living arrangement was right now (living with us most of the time) but they wished they could see their mom more in the summer, hence his recommendation. He said he was disappointed that the kids had witnessed the physical fighting and alcohol abuse in The Ex's home, and he believed The Ex's and Boyfriend's "dysfunctional relationship" (GAL's words, not mine) would have continued if Husband had not filed anything with the court. He had a few concerns about Husband and our household, but noted they were minor concerns in the grand scheme of things (Not to mention that the "concerns" were not legitimate because they were all things The Ex had lied about.)
After a year of uncertainty, things were settled. We knew the kids were safe a majority of the time. As Our Attorney put it, The Ex had to be more careful now because she knew we were watching. After we settled, things were calm for exactly one month and three days.
