Reasons why I love Daughter
The whole "I'm-Her-Favorite-Adult" thing put aside, I really do love Daughter. Don't get me wrong, I also love Son. But the fact is that Daughter and I have an undeniable, unbreakable bond - which The Ex hates me for, but that's for another blog post.
Daughter complained earlier this summer about having to go back to The Ex's house; she wanted to stay here, go swimming at the pool, and hang out with her friends. When she is at The Ex's house, it becomes her job to watch The Ex's two youngest children and occasionally Ned's child. (The Ex has told other people that Daughter does not want to watch Ned's child; both kids have told us that Ned's child is extremely naughty and misbehaves constantly, so it's understandable that Daughter would not want to deal with this on a regular basis.)
Daughter can see through The Ex's lies and deception a lot more clearly than Son can; she doesn't buy into the whole "Your dad and stepmom are evil, and all they want to do is hurt meeeee...." picture that their mother so frequently tries to paint. I do believe that Daughter loves The Ex, but she's smart enough to acknowledge when she's being lied to.
This past weekend, The Ex dropped off the kids. I was stuck at work late and was literally right behind them as they pulled into our driveway; I had to wait to park at my own house because Son drove, so The Ex had to get out, walk around the car, say goodbye to the kids, get back in the car, and then back out of my driveway. (This entire thing is even more humorous because six months ago The Ex told Son that he "didn't need his license," yet she's constantly having him drive for placement exchanges.)
After The Ex had left, Daughter told me that they were at the store and she bought another swimsuit. (This is a joke we have because she already has two swimsuits at our house but always sees new ones that she wants. They were also late because apparently they absolutely needed to go to the store - this is not the first time this has happened.) Daughter says of her swimsuit, "Mom didn't want me to bring it here." I kind of shrug because this is expected; The Ex tells the kids they can't bring "her" clothing here. Daughter then adds, "And I told her, 'I bought it.'" (Oh, SNAP. The Ex can't really argue with that, now can she? If Daughter paid for it with her own money, then why wouldn't she be allowed to take it where she wanted?)
Now, just a friendly reminder that placement exchange is supposed to take place at 5:30pm every time; however, The Ex is always late dropping off and always early picking up. What's most irritating about this is that when Husband was still doing half the transportation, the kids would tell us that The Ex refused to let them leave the house until the clock read exactly 5:30pm - it didn't matter if it was a difference of two minutes, they were still on "her" time and Husband had to sit outside and wait for them because The Ex said so.
Skip ahead to Monday afternoon/evening. Daughter had been at the pool with friends, came home, and showered. At some point, The Ex let her know that she was waiting outside already. Daughter came into the kitchen, opened up the fridge, asked whose cake was inside. Husband told her it wasn't really anyone's, it was there for whoever wanted it; he commented that The Ex was already outside.
Daughter looked at her phone, saw that it was only 5:20pm, and said, "I've got ten minutes. She can wait."
Karma can be a real bitch sometimes...
