Every dog has its day.
Somehow, amidst all the insanity that The Ex causes in her life and attempts to cause in ours, I haven't blogged about some weird stories involving her and dogs. I brought up one story in the last blog post and decided this would make for some good fodder.
I've written before about the dog that The Ex decided to get shortly after she moved in with Boyfriend. That dog had no training whatsoever and would constantly jump on people; the kids were always coming by us on the weekends with scratches on their arms, faces, and legs. The Ex once told me that the dog jumped on Boyfriend's sister while she was pregnant and hit her in the belly, so The Ex said she "threw the dog across the room." A few months later, The Ex decided they were getting rid of the dog because she couldn't "risk" the dog jumping on her while she was pregnant.
We got our first dog in 2012; one month later, The Ex decided that she and Boyfriend were also getting a dog, even though she hadn't been employed for nearly 8 months. The kids would tell us how the dog was only allowed to have one cup of food and water at a time, otherwise, he'd scarf it all down and throw up. (I'm not an animal expert, but it sounded to me like the dog was wolfing down his food because he was hungry, and ended up vomiting because of how quickly he was eating. But again, I'm not an expert on this; I only know how The Ex "handles" things in her home. When Son and Daughter were wetting the bed well past the age that they should have been, she just bought Pull-Ups and called it a day. I can't imagine she'd put any more effort into a dog than she put into her own kids.) This dog is also ill-behaved; the kids would say how they'd have to hold him back to keep him from running out the front door. They said a few times the dog got out and they had to chase him all over the trailer park until he finally got tired, let himself get caught, and go back home. One time Husband went to pick up the kids on a Sunday evening; the dog shoved his way out of the house, ran up to Husband's truck, and started scratching at it while barking the entire time. The Ex came out, pulled the dog off the truck, and told Husband how the dog had done the same thing recently to her friend; she mockingly repeated that her friend asked if she was going to pay to have the scratches removed from their vehicle. (The Ex acknowledged that her dog damaged someone else's property, but didn't think she ought to be responsible for repairing it. Cool.) All of that said, this is the same dog that charged Ned's ex-wife while barking, so she kicked him; The Ex uses this as an example of what a horrible person his ex is. I've already told the kids before that if a strange dog came running at me barking, I probably would have reacted the exact same way. The kids insist that the dog "wasn't going to do anything to her" but how is a stranger supposed to know that?
And now, I present to you the pièce de résistance. When The Ex met Ned, he had a dog that was pretty old. I'm relatively sure that Ned had this dog even before he was married to his ex-wife. Daughter told me how Ned's dog had glaucoma (Which The Ex pronounced as "glycoma" making me laugh each time she said it.) and it had gotten very bad, so Ned was going to take the dog to the vet to have his eyeballs removed and have the sockets sewn shut. (I told Daughter that there was no quality of life for the dog at that point, and my opinion is that blinding him was animal abuse.) Daughter said she told The Ex she thought this was ridiculous to spend that kind of money because the dog was something like 15 years old at that point, but said whatever - it wasn't her dog, so it wasn't her problem. About 3-4 months after Ned blinded his dog, The Ex was telling Daughter that she had let both dogs out to go to the bathroom before she left for work. (The Ex was working as a caregiver at that point in time, and she needed to be at her client's home by 5am.) The Ex said she let her dog back in but couldn't find Ned's dog, so she took off to work, picked up her client, and took them back to Ned's house to look for the dog. (So to set the scene: it's 4-4:30am, in the middle of wintertime which means the sun is nowhere near rising yet, the dog is black, he has no eyes to reflect any light....and The Ex left him outside.) The Ex said as she was approaching Ned's house on the highway, she came up to a car with flashing lights and there was a man outside of his vehicle with a coat laying over something. She asked the man if there was a black dog underneath the coat. The man said yes; he kept apologizing and said he had thought it was a deer at first. The Ex said she was crying and saying it was all her fault; she called Ned, who came with his mom to pick up the dog and take him to the vet. The dog ended up being fine, and I believe he lived for another year.
So with all that being said, let's remember that Ned's house has an invisible fence. Soooo.....how did Ned's dog get out on the road and hit by a car? I know The Ex is not a thinker, but why on earth would you let a blind, black dog outside without his collar before the sun is up when you live next to a highway, and then leave for work?? I mean, honestly....even The Ex is not that stupid. As sinister as it sounds, I think it might have been intentional.
